American Bible Society seeks a Fellow in Public Bible

Fellow in Public Bible (Contractor, History focus)

American Bible Society is hiring for a public-facing contract position focused on developing and publishing materials that help people grow in confidence in the Bible’s truth, reliability, applicability, and goodness. Working primarily in our Faith and Liberty programming area, the person in this Fellowship will help integrate new and existing materials on the public role of the Bible into the organization’s overall program offerings.

Drawing on history, storytelling, and biblical theology, the holder of this Fellowship will guide people in recognizing how the Bible informs our responsibilities and goals in all our roles in life. A key theme is helping people recognize how the Bible has shaped American institutions and ideals, its policies and reforms, its civil society and enterprise—and how the Bible continues to be a source of wisdom, hope, and inspiration for leaders and citizens today.

The role includes providing leadership for redeployment of existing museum content (historical and biographical) to new media. Specific tasks include preparing multimedia content for the new Faith and Liberty Bible App, as well as for websites, Substack and X platforms, podcasts, and LMS courses as we continue to introduce this material to new audiences.

The person in this role will work with the ABS Content Development team, and interact with the Innovation team, the Marketing team, and other fellows and content partners.

Specific tasks include:

  • Repurpose material from the former Faith and Liberty Discovery Center exhibits and adapt related content on the Bible in the American experience for deployment online.
  • Adapt the Faith and Liberty Speakers Bureau site (liberty.americanbible.org) to a broadly thematic website while retaining the speaker bureau function.
  • Write or curate new multimedia content including articles, online courses, podcast episodes, and videos.
  • Script or produce video and podcast episodes.

Details:

  • Contract term: 9–12 months, 20–30 hrs/week. Renewable. Background check may be required.
  • Ideal candidate is an independent scholar or graduate student with a background in history and a strong knowledge of the Bible.
  • Writing and storytelling skills are required. Editorial skills a plus.
  • Remote or hybrid position. Philadelphia-region candidates preferred. The American Bible Society archives are being moved to Philadelphia in 2027.
  • Rate: $50,000
  • Position open: September 2026

To apply, please send resume/CV, writing samples, and a brief reflection on the role of the Bible in public and civic spheres to: Peter Edman, Senior Director, Content Development, American Bible Society..
